Xilinx Enhances Serial Digital Video Solutions with New Multi-Rate SDI and HD-SDI Interface
SD and HD-SDI Standards Support on a Single Pin of Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGA
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. today announced a new multi-rate SDI and HD-SDI interface, providing enhanced support for demonstrating and testing high-bandwidth video communications channels based on Xilinx(R) Virtex-II Pro(TM) Platform FPGAs. The interface uses the Xilinx RocketIO(TM) multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs) available in all Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGAs to receive and transmits SDI (270Mbps and 360Mbps) and HD-SDI (1.4835Gbps and 1.485Gbps) bitstreams without the requirement of separate SERDES to support the various standards.

The multi-rate SDI and HD-SDI interface automatically determines which standard is received by the RocketIO receiver, de-scrambles and frames the video, checks for transmission errors and then retransmits the video through the Rocket IO transmitter. Using the free multi-rate interface reference design from Xilinx and the CTIXL103 Serial Digital Video (SDV) demonstration board available from Cook Technologies, designers can easily evaluate performance and integrate multi-rate SDI and HD-SDI interfaces and digital video processing blocks into a single Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGA.
